Recently I was asked to help one of our clients with their application for the prestigious, Canada’s Best Managed Companies, for 2015. Canada’s Best is one of the most recognized private company awards presented by Deloitte, CIBC, National Post, Queen’s School of Business and the MacKay CEO Forum. The application process is very intense and requires a lot of time, effort and money. Therefore, we had to decide if the investment was a good choice for my client who happens to be very busy during this time of the year.

In the current and emerging markets of intense competition, businesses capitalize on any opportunity that presents itself; leveraging their strengths to create a sustainable competitive advantage. Technology is one of those platforms that provides infinite possibilities.

One such possibility and question that companies face is whether they should develop a website or opt for a blog instead?

As a full service marketing and website design company in Saskatchewan, Look Agency recommends combining the best of both worlds! Why pick one when you can incorporate the two seamlessly, creating a complete experience for the customer while enhancing your business.

While many people use the two words interchangeably, it’s important to know the difference between web design and web development, especially when you are planning to hire someone to build your website.

 responsive web design

Seeing how mobile and tablet traffic is reaching 60% of overall traffic on our client sites , such as shown above, I thought it would be a good time to write another blog post that explains responsive web technology.

A responsive website is one that adapts itself to the screen size of the device it is being viewed on. Unlike mobile sites, a responsive website doesn’t care if you are on a desktop or a phone or what operating system you have. All it cares about is what's the width of your screen. The advantage of this approach is that you need only one website which is not the case with mobile sites that also require desktop versions. The disadvantage of a responsive site is that it can be slower than a mobile site due to its requirement to handle multiple screen sizes.

As the summer slowly winds down and we desperately try to get as much vitamin D in these last few weeks as possible, sooner or later our attention turns to the impending season change.

September. It’s coming.

I don’t want to make too much of an assumption here, but I am pretty sure it’s almost summer.  While the deluge of rain that we’ve recently had seems to spoil our excitement, July 1 is just around the corner. I like to approach it like it is its own New Years Day: I will make the same cliché list of goals, but this time the warmer weather will hopefully encourage me to actually meet them!

One of the most difficult things in business is determining what price to sell your products or services for. In most cases, businesses base their prices on the cost of production, as they are unsure of the value they provide. For example, a jewelry maker may sell their jewelry at (x) times the price of silver. In another example, an accounting firm will figure out that they are paying a bookkeeper $25/hour, and thus bill out $75/hour as per the rule of thirds. If you aren’t familiar with the rule of thirds, it states that the revenues are made of three equal parts: cost of production, overhead and profit. No matter what multiple is used, businesses that do this are selling commodity instead of value.

Over the past 12 months we've had the chance to work on some pretty fun projects. This past weekend in Saskatoon, some of those projects were recognized at the 2014 Elevators Awards.

The Elevators are Saskatchewan's premier design awards, where the most compelling work in our province is showcased. And gosh darnit, we're pretty excited to announce we went home with some hardware!

The advertising industry is very competitive, and thanks to television shows like Mad Men, it can be perceived as sexy and exciting to a lot of people. In addition, like any occupation that society looks at with celebrity status, there is a pressure to perform day in and day out. Advertising agencies work is their calling card, and one of the best assets of someone’s work is their originality.
